BMW headlights

Maybe this has been done here allready but in Holland i seem to be number 2 who has done this....so not unique

Yesterday i was at the local breakersyard for a completely other reason but in a corner i saw an older 5 series BMW with double projector headlights. In my trunk i still had the yellow Morettes lying around.

Suddenly an

popped in my mind and i ran back to my car to pick up one of these lamps, ran back to the beamer to measure.....just a few milimeters off

The yellow lamps were bad so i was hoping to find something to replace them.

Made a good deal for the Bmw lights including the connectors and was gone in my garage for the rest of the day.

And YES, they work too

It doesn't fit perfect, but can be done if you're a bit handy. You have to ajust a lot.

And if i ask to give me a certain screwdriver he gives me some tape.....useless these dogs

Tony, you should have your hand shaken for that one!

BX headlights really are rubbish, I have to do something about mine. Presumably re-doing the wiring with something thicker (dental floss for example) would be beneficial?

as it so happens, i htink there may be an abandonded beemer outside my house that has the same lights onit!! roll on the end of the month whent he tax runs out and i may be out stripping it one night

(got good tyres too but not the right size for mine nor the wifes car!

The Angel eyes.....my brother mentioned them when i was ready

Couldn't he be a day earlier? Would be cool though, a bx with angel eyes.

But i don't think they'll fit because as far as i know they are behind glas?

As a matter of fact, i don't know these beamer lights will fit all bx lights because i have them from the mark GS.....or Musketeer. It all depends on the backside....
I have no idea if it's right for the dutch MOT but i made so it is easy to install the standard lamps back.

I used to work at a scrapyard and one day I scrapped an old beemer and thinked just the way you did. The problem is that I had no quadlights for BX to play with.

its a long nose bonnet! moset have the short nose with the grill!

First i want to change the "progress" interior for a 16V one if i can find it. Doorpanels i found allready.

My headlamps were really dim too.
The voltage at the bulbs was very low.

The wiring is too thin, and it corrodes, plus there is no direct power feed or return for the headlamps. Also the reflectors had tarnished.

BX headlamps can be made to work very well indeed:

First, replace the headlamp units with new, surprisingly cheap.
Fit a relay for both high and low beam, energised by the original bulb feeds.
wire the bulb returns direct to the chassis.
wire the lights with proper heavy gauge cable.
add fuses for main + dipped at the battery +ve terminal.
Then replace the bulbs with 100w/55w devices.

The quad lens version should also be installed in this way.

Night becomes Day!

I did the same wiring mod for the fogs, after replacing them with spot lenses and they only light on main beam now. The extra 200w makes no real difference, as the main beams are so good.

(I have a stock of new 100/55w bulbs if anyone wants a pair.)

I'd be interested in a pair of those bulbs Mike. My local halfrauds use to sell them and I used them for my cars when I did road rallies back in my student days and couldnt afford proper spots! Haven't seen them anywhere for a while though (not that I've been looking very hard). How much would you want?

I never knew what the long nose bonnet was, but I have to say I think it looks pretty cool, what models had it fitted as standard then?
